Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 24 (ANI): Various temples on the Ram Ghat, situated on the banks of Shipra River, submerged after the water level of the river rose following continuous rainfall in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district.
As a precaution, the district administration has installed barricades on the roads leading to the river ghats so that there shouldn’t be any incidents.
Pind Daan rituals are performed here on the Ghats to pay homage and offer prayers to departed ancestors. Now, the purohits are performing those rituals by making sheds close to the ghats due to the presence of water on the ghats of the Shipra river.
“The water-level of the Shipra river is continuously increasing from yesterday early morning. As of now, the water-level flows eight feet above from a culvert on Ram Ghat. Home Guard staff and swim staff SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) are deployed here and barricades have been put up on the roads leading to the ghat. Movement of people to take baths has also been prohibited,” said Ishwar Lal Choudhary, Home Guard staff Ramghat Ujjain.
A priest, Himanshu Vyas told ANI, “The water-level of the Shipra river made a significant rise in the last two days. Though the river is flowing below the danger mark as of now, this rise in water-level is seen after a long time. A situation of water scarcity has started arising in the city which would now be resolved.”
“Due to the continuous rainfall, the Sipra river is overflowing and all the temples on Ram Ghat are submerged. We are also facing problems in worshipping. We are performing the pujan for Pind Daan rituals at a nearby place away from the ghat. We pray to Shipra mata for the welfare of the public,” said Lota Guru, purohit, Ramghat. (ANI)
