Mohali (Punjab) [India], April 16 (ANI): Punjab Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday evening claimed that children in the state are “selling their land” and going abroad and expressed concern that “many” youth are allegedly “addicted” to drugs and said this is a “big challenge.
Pratap Bajwa was addressing the party workers after leaving the cybercrime police station in Mohali in connection with a first information report registered against him over claims that 50 bombs had entered the state and 18 of them had already exploded.
Bajwa also remarked that Congress has “good” leadership and claimed that the police have not called him again.
He said, “Our children are selling their land and going abroad, many youths are addicted to drugs, this is a big challenge. We have to save Punjab. Congress has good leadership…They (police) have not called me again; if they call me, then I will tell you…”
Later in the evening, while speaking to ANI, Bajwa said, “The real question is how they destroyed an established institution. The leader of the Opposition is considered to be a shadow Chief Minister. If such a person can be kept for six hours in interrogation, think what will happen to a common man.”
Meanwhile, former Punjab Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday said that the entire Congress party is with Punjab Partap Singh Bajwa
“The entire Congress is with Bajwa (Pratap Singh Bajwa) sahab. We will fight this battle together,” Channi told ANI.
On Sunday, a team of Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence team reached Bajwa’s residence to inquire about the claim by the Punjab Leader of Opposition about grenades and bombs entering the State. However, the Punjab Police said that Bajwa has not revealed any sources to them.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit Ravjot Grewal, who visited the residence of the Lop with her team, said that Bajwa was not able to provide a source regarding his claims that multiple grenades and bombs had entered Punjab.
“Partap Singh Bajwa had made a statement that grenades have entered Punjab; this was very sensitive information. So we had come here to ask about the source. My team and I arrived here today because of that. This information is related to National Security, so it is very important for us to know what this source is and because our Counter Intelligence does not have any information,” the AIG told reporters in Chandigarh.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh lashed out at the Punjab Government over the issue and called Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann “a bundle of insecurity and incompetence” and said that the AAP “leadership is rattled.”
“Instead of taking the warning seriously, the Chief Minister of Punjab accused Mr. Bajwa – who has lost family to terrorism – of links with terrorist groups. A counterintelligence team was sent to Mr. Bajwa’s residence, and cases have now been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023,” Jairam Ramesh wrote on X.
“Clearly, the Punjab Chief Minister – a bundle of insecurity and incompetence- and the corrupt AAP leadership is rattled and is resorting to intimidation, smear and threats. It will not work,” he added. (ANI)
