New Delhi [India], October 7 (ANI): Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party-led government for the ‘open manholes, heaps of garbage, and mismanagement of electrical wires’ in the Rangpuri, Aya Nagar, and Jaunapur areas of South Delhi.
LG Saxena’s statement followed his inspection of these areas on Sunday, during which he blamed the Delhi Government for the ‘mismanagement’ in the capital, which has created hazardous conditions for residents.
He remarked, “Yesterday evening, during the inspection of Rangpuri, Aya Nagar, and Jaunapur in South Delhi, following persistent requests from local residents, a shocking example of the failure and mismanagement of the Delhi Government was once again evident. The alarming situation, with a maze of electric wires hanging dangerously, women carrying pipes for drinking water, open manholes, heaps of garbage, and sewer water flowing through the streets, is unforgivable.”
“Thousands of people living here are deprived of basic amenities. There is encroachment, and garbage piles up in the narrow streets. Pits filled with drain and sewer water, and a haphazardly scattered network of pipes make life miserable. Even today, essential services like sewage, drinking water, and proper roads remain unavailable in the nation’s capital,” he added.
The LG further attacked the Delhi government, highlighting issues such as ‘lack of drainage and permanent water lines.’
“Due to the absence of proper drainage, people are living amid foul smells and diseases caused by waterlogging in densely populated areas like Rangpuri. The water board has yet to lay permanent water lines, leaving the area filled with illegal pipes. The roads are in disrepair, and the sewage problem makes residents’ lives even harder,” Saxena noted.
He also pointed out similar conditions during his inspections of North-East and North-West Delhi and blamed the AAP government for the ‘dire’ situation, urging Chief Minister Atishi to ‘take notice.’
“The same mismanagement observed here was also seen during inspections of North-East and North-West Delhi. Due to the government’s negligence and indifference for the past 10 years, most Delhi residents are forced to live in conditions worse than hell. Had the government worked honestly for just two years out of the last 10, this dire situation could have been avoided. The images from the area speak volumes about the poor state of affairs,” Saxena stated.
“I once again urge the Honourable Chief Minister to pay attention to governance now,” he added. (ANI)
