New Delhi [India], May 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday hit out at the Congress over not proposing the name of Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor for the delegations to foreign countries to explain India’s stance on terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla said that Congress does not trust its party leaders.
He further said that Congress proposed dubious names, including people during whose election slogans of Pakistan Zindabad were raised.
“… Congress does not trust its party leaders. Shashi Tharoor has constantly thwarted Pakistan’s narrative and introduced the concept of India First. But the Congress gave priority to its party over the nation and put forward dubious names, including the people, during whose election slogans of Pakistan Zindabad were raised,” he said.
“This is an example of Congress’s petty and petulant mindset. Shashi Tharoor said he is always available to serve the country. This means that he has put India above INC…,” Poonawalla added.
A seven-member all-party delegation is set to visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council, later this month in the context of Operation Sindoor and India’s continued fight against cross-border terrorism.
The following Members of Parliament will lead the seven delegations: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha, BJP leader Baijayant Panda, DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Eknath Shinde.
Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the Indian National Congress (INC) has submitted names of four MPs for the government’s proposed delegations to foreign countries to explain India’s stance on terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
Curiously, the name of Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor is missing from the list that Jairam Ramesh says the Congress submitted to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
The All-Party Delegations will project India’s national consensus and resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations. They would carry forth to the world the country’s strong message of zero tolerance against terrorism.
Members of Parliament from different parties, prominent political personalities, and distinguished diplomats will be part of each delegation.
The tour is expected to last 10 days, commencing on May 23. The parliamentarians’ groups are likely to visit several key world capitals, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and Japan.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, in which precision strikes destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoK) and eliminated nearly 100 terror operatives at key bases in Pakistan.
