Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 18 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had visited Pakistan on the “invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),” the neighbouring country’s spy agency.
Addressing the media, CM Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi had gone to Pakistan on invitation of ISI. For the first time, I want to say that he went to Pakistan at the invitation of ISI. We have that document. He went there to receive training.”
The Chief Minister further claimed that Gogoi’s visit was facilitated not by Pakistan’s Ministry of External Affairs or Cultural Ministry, but by the Pakistan’s Home Department, making it a matter of serious national concern.
“Gaurav Gogoi went there after receiving the letter from the Pakistan Home Department. He went there following the invitation of the Pakistan government. Not External Affairs, Cultural Ministry, he went there at the invitation of the Pakistan Home Department,” Sarma claimed, adding It is a “serious matter…more considerable action will be taken.”
A day earlier, Sarma has urged Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi not to include Gogoi’s name in the central government’s proposed delegations to foreign countries to explain India’s stance on terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
“One of the MPs named in the list ( from Assam ) has not denied his prolonged stay in Pakistan–reportedly for two weeks–and credible documents show that his wife was drawing salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India,” Assam CM posted on X.
“In the interest of national security and beyond partisan politics, I urge leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi not to include this individual in such a sensitive and strategic assignment,” he added.
This comes after Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh shared the names of four MPs, including Gaurav Gogoi, for the government’s proposed delegations to foreign countries to explain India’s stance on terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
In past as well, Sarma had charged Gaurav Gogoi of having Pakistan links. However, Gogoi had vehemently dismissed the allegations against him. (ANI)
