Chandigarh (Punjab), [India], December 20 (ANI): Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who has been recently suspended by Congress on Saturday appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, retired judges, and legal professionals to refrain from taking up cases on behalf of drug lords and land grabbers, emphasising the need to protect government land and stray cattle in the state.
In a post shared on X, Sidhu urged authorities to help reclaim approximately 1.25 lakh acres of land earmarked for cows, which could be used to shelter stray animals.
“My appeal to CM,Bhagwant Mann and all retired judges,Senior and junior advocates ; Please don’t take up any cases supporting drug lords and land grabbers. We need to protect our government land encroachers and help us get back land marked for Cows which is around 1.25 lakh acres so that we can shift our strays there and ensure that cow cess and donations keep them safe,” Sidhu’s X post read.
Sidhu also suggested measures to safeguard stray cattle, including the use of reflective neck bands to prevent accidents and fatalities.
“Ensure punishment for those who throw their strays on roads after getting each animal tagged and registered compulsory for tracking. Ensure that strays are protected by reflective neck bands to prevent accidental injuries and deaths. Also with keeping count of strays you can check illegal trafficking for human consumption which has largely become a trend in Punjab and Chandigarh,” Sidhu’s X post further read.
Earlier, Navjot Kaur Sidhu raised serious allegations against the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, seeking security and accusing the administration of shielding the liquor and mining mafia.
In a post on X, Sidhu warned that any threat to his safety would be the Chief Minister’s responsibility and questioned the lack of response to issues he had earlier raised with the Punjab Governor.
In his post, Sidhu shared a detailed letter addressed to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, alleging what he termed as the “biggest land scandal” in the state.
She claimed that large-scale illegal land holdings in the Shivalik belt, including protected forest areas, were being regularised by the present government. Sidhu alleged that land sharks had grabbed parcels ranging from one acre to 10,000 acres at throwaway prices and were now being given legal cover.
Sidhu recalled her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s tenure as Local Bodies Minister, stating that he refused to sign files related to the issues and instead ordered an inquiry.
Expressing grave concern over Punjab’s law-and-order situation, Sidhu said the state was witnessing rising crime, misuse of weapons and public fear, forcing people to consider migration.
He urged the Governor to convene an urgent special session of the Punjab Assembly to address key issues, including honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and safeguarding institutional autonomy, and to appeal for immediate intervention to restore public confidence. (ANI)
