Rewa (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 21 (ANI): Two women were partially buried after murrum was off-loaded over them from a dumper truck while they were protesting against the construction of a road in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Hinauta village on Saturday, and a video of it went viral on social media, prompting police to launch an investigation and subsequently register a case.
In the viral video, one of the victims could be seen buried up to her shoulders and the other up to her waist, crying as other family members came to their rescue.
The victims alleged that they were assaulted by the accused and were buried when they protested against the road construction work.
According to police, the victims, identified as Asha Pandey and Mamata Pandey, both residents of Hinauta village, sat behind the dumper truck to protest the road construction and got partially buried after murrum was off-loaded on them.
Both women were safely rescued, taken to a hospital for treatment, and later discharged, officials said.
Rewa SP Vivek Singh said that a case under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (for attempt to murder) has been registered against three persons, including the dumper truck driver and two family members of the victims.
“The accused have been identified as Praveen (the dumper truck driver), Gokaran Pandey (the father-in-law of one of the victims), and Bipin Pandey (another family member). One of the accused, Bipin, has been taken into custody, and the dumper-truck has also been seized,” the SP said.
DIG, Rewa Range, Saket Prakash Pandey, said that both the accused and victims are from the same family and that there was a dispute among the members of the Pandey family.
He said that the truck driver was off-loading murrum for construction of a road on a farmland when the incident took place. The farmland belongs to one of the accused, Gokaran Pandey, who is the father-in-law of one of the victims and the complainant in the case, Asha Pandey.

“Murrum was being off-loaded from a dumper truck, and both women got partially buried in it,” DIG Pandey said, adding that they were trying to arrange footage of the incident to identify other accused.
The police were further looking into the incident and a hunt to trace and nab the other two accused in the case was on. (ANI)
