Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 14 (ANI): Congress MP R Sudha has hit back at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay after his sharp criticism of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, accusing him of rushing into politics with the ambition of becoming Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the Congress MP said, “Vijay has now woken up and is going around meeting people. Congress and the Dravidian movements have always been fighting for the people’s issues and for social justice. It is not right for him to say such things now, with the mindset that he wants to immediately become Chief Minister.”
“Those who have always fought for the land, language, people’s development, and social justice are never rejected during elections. It is the people who will decide who to elect. We can see what happens when the elections come. Vijay is going around giving assurances in words,” she added.
Earlier on Saturday, Vijay launched his state-wide campaign for the 2026 elections from Tiruchirappalli.
Addressing a rally in Ariyalur, Vijay said that he has not entered politics to earn money but to serve people.
Vijay questioned the state government, led by DMK, over the implementation of promises given in their manifesto for the 2021 Assembly elections.
“The DMK gave more than 500 promises. How many of those promises has this DMK government fulfilled? Without fully implementing them, my dear Chief Minister Stalin shamelessly lies, claiming that all the promises have been fulfilled,” he said.
He further said, “What happened to the old pension scheme? Has the DMK government fulfilled all the promises made in its last election manifesto? Will you still vote for the DMK in the coming election? Will you vote for the party that did not keep its promise… The DMK promised an education loan waiver. Was it implemented? You were assured of filling up vacant government posts. Were they filled? The voices from Trichy echo the widespread sentiment across the state, demanding accountability from the government for its unfulfilled promises…”
He says, “I dont need to earn money through politics. My only purpose is to serve you, the ones who have given me everything; nothing else matters to me. How cruel this BJP government is. In Bihar, 60 lakhs voters are missing from the electoral rolls. Through the idea of ‘One Nation, One Election’, they are thinking of dissolving all the state governments and conducting elections simultaneously. They believe they can carry out many manipulations. This is called the murder of democracy. Believing that they (DMK) would do well, both you and I elected them. The DMK gave more than 500 promises. How many of those promises has this DMK government fulfilled? Without fully implementing them, my dear Chief Minister Stalin shamelessly lies, claiming that all the promises have been fulfilled…” (ANI)
