Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], May 19 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to free the country from the diseases of sickle cell and thalassemia and assured that quality treatment facilities will be made available in government hospitals.
“PM Modi has taken steps to free the country from sickle cell and thalassemia. All efforts will be made to create quality treatment facilities in government colleges here to free patients from this deadly disease,” Fadnavis said in Nagpur.
He mentioned how a diverse group of people come to the Government Medical College and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College, which is why there is a need to provide modern facilities and resources.
“Government Medical College and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College are large medical institutions in Central India. Patients from all walks of life come here for treatment. However, modern facilities are needed. Emphasis is being placed on building modern resources here. Various infrastructure facilities will increase the quality of these institutions,” he added.
In a post on X, he discussed the projects and underlined the need to upgrade health infrastructure in government medical colleges.
“The State Government has allocated a fund of Rs 1000 crore to upgrade the services and infrastructure at both the Government Medical College and Hospital, and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital to a state-of-the-art standard, addressing the lack of modern facilities and systems for improved education and patient care,” his post read.
Talking about the need for better infrastructure, he said, “If Government medical colleges lack world-class infrastructure, they may fall behind private medical colleges or universities in today’s competitive environment. Government institutions offer unmatched clinical exposure, but if infrastructure is neglected, their overall standard declines. In this context, facilities like auditoriums, skywalks, sports amenities, cath labs, and robotic surgery units have been developed, with several other works currently underway,” CM Fadnavis said in the post.
He has also ordered the ongoing work to be completed within a year, with decisions to be made to set up dedicated facilities for treating sickle cell and Thalassemia, along with a bone marrow transplant unit.
“Also asked to complete ongoing works within a year so that the medical college can start serving the people. We will also make decisions to set up dedicated facilities for Sickle Cell and Thalassemia projects, along with a Bone Marrow Transplant unit. I also emphasised that the construction work of the Dental College must be completed swiftly,” the Maharashtra CM said.
Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, MLA Pravin Datke, MLA Krishna bhau Khopde, MLC Sandip Joshi, MLC Abhijit Wanjarri and other dignitaries were also present in the programme. (ANI)
